A comfort zone is a beautiful place, but nothing ever grows there.

I progressed up the career ladder from Software Engineer to Architect within 5 years, and here are a few tips that I always followed to fast-track my career.

— Train your mind to accept the simple fact that it’s OK to be confused a little bit or not know everything, always. The moment you accept it, you open yourself up to a world of new opportunities.

— Don’t just do things by the book, always; complaining is not going to solve anything. Look at every problem or situation as an opportunity to use your past experiences and creative thinking to come up with new solutions.

— Have a better understanding of the bigger picture, always. Following instructions isn’t good enough; always ask yourself, “How can I add more value?” or “What’s the value addition of the task I’m working on?” Once you have an answer to this question, you will be able to put your focus on the right thing and become more productive.

— Don’t be afraid to take risks; it’s completely fine to fail. Success is not in the money we make, but in the fears we overcome.
